The Portfolio Strategy Manager (originally named Vehicle Flexibility Command Center) is a highly customized and proprietary portfolio construction web application that generates compliant versions of American Funds on a daily basis by replacing problematic securities with new securities that meet necessary regional requirements, and match the parent fund’s performance as closely possible. The investment team then reviews these new security recommendations and determines the best course of action (buy/hold/sell).

As Senior UI/UX Designer, my role was to lead and execute ALL design decisions for this software from concept to completion, in close partnership and collaboration with the firm’s investment team, the project stakeholders and our development and testing teams. This included initial design systems and direction, followed by major redesign initiatives to accommodate scale, performance, and enhance usability. I was responsible for crafting every design and interaction component, documenting essential design principles and libraries, creating all wireframes and prototypes, and integrating new technologies.

Over the course of 7 years this evolved from a raw concept with zero assets under management, to quickly becoming one of Capital Group’s major areas of growth. Capital Group’s Portfolio Strategy Manager is currently trading over $130 billion dollars in assets across dozens of funds and ETFs internationally on a daily basis.
